Cape Town Book Launch of The Decade of Torment and its Aftermath
The launch of The Decade of Torment and its Aftermath by Patiswa MaThuse Qokweni was successfully held at Isilimela High School in Langa on Wednesday, 12 August 2026. The event brought together family, friends, community members and supporters to celebrate the publication of the author’s powerful personal account and to reflect on the experiences documented in the book.
The programme was directed by Mrs IN Mbanga, followed by opening remarks. Prof Lungisile Ntsebeza delivered the welcome and introductory message, providing context for the book and highlighting the importance of documenting personal and political histories.
A message from Isilimela High School Principal, Mrs T Dlali, followed, representing the school’s support for the occasion and its role in hosting the launch. The author, Mrs Patiswa Qokweni, then shared her message with those gathered, reflecting on the journey behind the book and its publication.
The programme continued with a question-and-answer session, allowing attendees to engage directly with the author and explore themes arising from the book. Mr PG Qokweni delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging those who contributed to making the event possible.
The formal programme concluded with the cutting of the Golden Anniversary cake, followed by refreshments and an opportunity for guests to interact, purchase copies of the book and continue the conversations started during the programme.
The launch marked an important first step in bringing The Decade of Torment and its Aftermath to a wider audience. It was also a celebration of the value of preserving personal histories and creating spaces for dialogue across generations.
The next launch will take place at The Palace Guest House in Cala on 24 September 2026.
